When Agency AI Bans Meet Translation Reality

These days, it’s almost routine to come across LSP contracts that leave you wondering if they genuinely want to move into the new paradigm or are still trying to follow the old rules.

That happened to me recently—a new owner slapped on a “no AI or machine translation” rule unless the client specifically asked for it. Not even secure tools like CotranslatorAI were allowed. For me, that was a deal-breaker. I’m not willing to slow down my work, get paid less, or pretend not to know how far the technology has come.

But here’s the interesting part: instead of shrugging and moving on, I spoke up. I laid out why these bans actually hurt everyone—punishing honest translators and encouraging risky shortcuts with insecure tools. It also leaves the LSP behind the curve, out of the loop, and unable to add real value.

To my surprise, my feedback made its way up the chain. Suddenly, agency leadership is rethinking the policy.

Takeaway? You can still change the game at smaller LSPs. If you’re handed cramped, outdated rules, push for secure and smart ways to use AI. Spell out the benefits, demonstrate your high standards, AI-smart service offering, and keep the conversation alive, not just for yourself but for everyone in your shoes… and for the LSP, too!
