ATTN: Translators who know the difference between a shift and a total vanishing act

NAVIGATING THE PARADIGM SHIFT

Don’t miss the opportunities emerging during the market shift

So, you keep hearing the translation market is shrinking. Looks grim, right? But what if it’s simply shifting, and you’ve just got to catch up?

While social media wallows in doom, I keep meeting translators who are finding fresh work in all sorts of places. Some are picking up new skills to tackle more complex projects. Others are using AI to break into areas they never touched before. The secret? They’ve stopped waiting for the “good old days” to make a comeback and are reequipping for the future.

Real CotranslatorAI users are now consulting on localization workflows, landing direct clients, and providing services their old agency work never could. They’re also delivering at quality and efficiency levels they never did before.

Every time I hear a success story, I’m reminded that the only real dead end is standing still.

Where are your new opportunities hiding? They’re in those AI-powered workflows, in new types of content, and in clients suddenly needing proper multilingual support, not hack jobs.

Your job isn’t shrinking. It’s shape-shifting.

Don’t just wait… move. Try a new tool, learn a new skill, talk to a new client.

You could start by reading Reshuffle. This book has helped me better understand implications of the AI shift that I merely had a gut feeling about before (special thanks to Anne Chemali for the recommendation).

EFFECTIVE PROMPTING

Ever get the feeling the AI knows a little too much about your translation data?

I want to spotlight a quiet risk in every translator’s workflow: unexpected context leaks.

Let’s start with Anne Chemali (the hero of this week’s newsletter!). While using Trados’s GroupShare on a confidential project, she called in Copilot for isolated terminology backup.

But Copilot didn’t just answer her question. It pulled in project details she never typed and even explained terms she hadn’t mentioned. The culprit? Browsers and cloud tools that blur the line between private work and public data (read her LinkedIn post).

I’ve seen the same thing. Even when I start new chats in a chatbot, the AI still remembers things from way back, dropping them into unrelated discussions.

The fact is your work environment isn’t isolated. That doesn’t just risk privacy, creeping context can even lead to sloppy, inconsistent work.

So, what do you do? First, get savvy. Know that context lives in more places than you think. And make sure your tools don’t grab more than they should.

That “context control” principle is behind the CotranslatorAI design philosophy. Built to give you hands-on command over context, it focuses the AI exactly where you want it. If you want higher-level context, you can use a system prompt for that. But you can also isolate the AI’s focus at the prompt, window and tab levels, as well. Everything’s under your control.

And this freedom and control is what creates the foundation for a high-quality professional workflow.

COTRANSLATORAI TIP

Be sure to download the new CotranslatorAI update

Stanislav just released a minor update to CotranslatorAI. In it he fixed a couple minor irritations, and a recent clash with another app.

You’ll be prompted to download it the next time you start CotranslatorAI. Or, you can just go to the Download page and get it there: https://cotranslatorai.com/download/

And if you want to know more about the system prompts that I mentioned in Anne’s article above, you can get full details in Section 7-3 of The Cotranslator Guide at https://cotranslatorai.com/documentation/

Keep shifting, never sitting.

Chasing the opportunities, Steven (for the crew)
