Hello AI-curious translators,
Two recent questions came up in my webclass that I think you’ll want to hear the answers to. Not just because they’re common… but because the answers might surprise you.
First:
Can you use the GAIT workflow in a client’s CAT tool that doesn’t let you export or import bilingual files?
Think browser-based platforms. No neat exports. No tidy reimports. Just you, a blinking cursor, and segments to fill.
Turns out… yes, GAIT still works. You just have to get a bit clever.
Instead of working with files, you use CotranslatorAI to process multiple segments at once via prompt. Then you paste the results back into the CAT tool manually. It’s not as slick as the full bilingual workflow, but it’s still faster and more consistent (with higher quality!) than translating everything manually.

What happens to tags when using AI with bilingual files? Do they confuse the AI? Do they get lost on reimport?
Here’s the thing:
The AI handles tags just fine. Better than you’d expect. The tags stay intact when you re-import into tools like MemoQ. They survive the round trip.
The one caveat? Formatting like bold or italics gets dropped unless you use specific tricks to preserve them. But for the most part… tags are no big deal.
So what does all this mean for you?
It means you can apply the GAIT workflow more flexibly than you thought. You don’t need special CAT tool permissions. You don’t need to worry about breaking your files. And you don’t need to give up control to get the benefits of AI.
