Are we rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic?
I still remember sitting at the 2006 ATA conference in New Orleans, hearing about new MT development and giving myself five more years in the field…. max.
Nearly 20 years later, nothing’s changed… this fear is still relevant.
The fact is, we don’t know where our industry is going.
Many jobs have disappeared; ours could be next.
It’s not just AI either.
Renato Beninatto shared insights about the circus on LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7319099019564044289/
His conclusion: “The circus is gone. The show is bigger than ever.”
This insight resonates with me.
While we can’t predict precisely how AI will shape our future, there’s often opportunity in chaos.
Can’t handle the chaos? Changing jobs is a plan.
I respect that decision, if that’s what you choose.
But doing nothing is not an actionable plan.
And without action on a plan, our chances of success are exactly zero.
If you want to succeed as a translator, the only way forward is to keep fighting and adapting until we find our way through.
