Hello to the translators who are tired of hearing big AI ideas with no usable workflow,

NAVIGATING THE PARADIGM SHIFT

Daniel Sebesta’s AI ThoughtCon 2026 talk, “Creative Control in AI Translation”

Anne, our esteemed CotranslatorAI LinkedIn Page administrator, pointed me to a presentation this week that you may want to watch.

Why this one?

Because Daniel explains it better than I do: AI in translation is not mainly a speed story. It’s a control story.

And if you lose control, you lose value.

That is the trap in a lot of AI workflows right now. Let the machine produce everything, patch the obvious mistakes, move on. Efficient? Sometimes. But it also turns you into the cleanup crew for someone else’s draft.

And it doesn’t put quality first.

That is not the future I want for translators.

The better path for premium workflows is human-guided AI. Put the machine to work… but do not let it lead. You set the intent. You define the constraints. You decide what stays, what goes, and what needs that extra human something. And you stay in control the whole time.

It reminds me of the 2nd and 3rd opportunities of AI in translation:
2. AI puts you in position to expand your role in the translation process.
3. AI gives you your voice back as a translator.

I’ve been talking about these for years.

And it’s why Daniel’s message matters, and why it lines up so closely with what we believe at CotranslatorAI.

Go watch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkVGtIS_VGY

Start at 2:04:00.

Then ask yourself… am I using AI to strengthen my value, or quietly training the market to ignore it?

EFFECTIVE PROMPTING

Prompting matters… until it doesn’t

Let’s talk about prompting… practically.

Yes, better prompts help. If you tell the AI only “translate this,” you will usually get a generic result. But if you define the task, set constraints, and give strong examples, output often improves fast.

For translators, that usually means five things.

  1. Be clear about the job. Formal, natural, technical, client-facing… say which, and be specific.
  2. Add constraints. Terminology, formatting, punctuation, banned words… spell them out.
  3. Use examples. A short gold-standard sample often beats another paragraph of instructions.
  4. Split the work. First-draft prompting and refinement prompting are not always the same task.
  5. And if the AI keeps making the same mistake, fix it in the prompt so you stop paying for it with your time.

But prompting has limits.

At some point, extra tweaks produce smaller and smaller gains. That is when you’ll waste time chasing a “perfect” prompt instead of just finishing the job.

The goal is not infinite prompting and model searching. The goal is efficient control….

“Creative Control”

Get the AI to a useful baseline quickly… then step in with judgment, taste, and expertise.

COTRANSLATORAI TIP

Learn the Creative-Control Translation Flow (and get a free CotranslatorAI tab collection too!)

If Daniel Sebesta’s presentation got your wheels turning, here is your practical next step.

Months before that talk appeared, I released the Creative-Control Translation Flow for CotranslatorAI.

The title overlap made me smile.

But the real point is this… you do not have to stop at nodding along with creative control. You can start using it.

That matters because “keep humans in charge of the loop” sounds nice, but it does not tell you what to do on a live client project.

You need a system.

This free 31-minute training shows you how to build one. You will learn how to use structured prompts, separate drafting from refining and terminology research, run quick research loops, and make the AI sound more like you.

In plain English… less random prompting, more repeatable control.

The goal is not to automate yourself out of the process. It is to get faster without giving away judgment.

Here’s what this transformation did for Ellen: “I feel alive again! It’s like I got my craft back.”

Then spend the time practicing on real material. If questions come up, join AI4LanguageProfessionals and ask.

Inspiration is useful.

A working workflow is better.

Less theory, more workflow,

Steven (for the team)
