Is your MT good enough to beat mine? – 23 June 2026 (LSP Initiative)

Is your MT good enough to beat mine? – 23 June 2026 (LSP Initiative)

Hi,

You’ll sell more translations if you offer your clients three service tiers: full-human translation, MTPE, and raw MT.

You’ll also be more competitive offering these services through your current freelance translators, experts you already know and trust.

But veteran translators are tired of MTPE being used as a one-way ramrod to cut rates.

Just last week I was offered a post-editing job at 3 cents per word. Fine… But there was no quality control before it reached me from scanned PDF-converted Word files. You can imagine what that looked like in a CAT tool: broken segmenting, tag soup, inconsistent and incorrect translations everywhere….

And instructions to deliver “near human quality”.

Right.

If the LSP doesn’t take the work seriously, nobody else will either. Cheap post-editors just pretend to improve it; they move a few words and tags around and call it a day. That’s all they really can do under the circumstances.

I’m sure the end client got it cheap, but I doubt they got much value. In fact, that workflow is virtually indistinguishable from raw MT. It just gives MTPE a bad name.

On the other hand, most veteran translators are willing to meet halfway when invited to a responsible workflow. We all see what’s happening in the market. It’s just that nobody wants to be stuck holding the short end of the stick in trust-destroying processes.

Clearly, the status quo isn’t working well for any of us. That’s why it’s time for a new approach.

What if you could give your best translators a better baseline? Let them work in their preferred tool, with their preferred workflow? Give them coaching and training that actually connects to value?

If you show your translators this respect, some will be willing to give it a try and really try hard, especially when you tell them what the client actually wants, not just what the ISO gobbledygook says.

With a better baseline, they can focus on improvements, not clean up.

And now your client gets a job that’s demonstrably better than free MT.

My GAIT-Augmented MT & MTPE workflow delivers the best baseline anywhere through:

  1. Best-practice file pre-processing
  2. Context-rich AI translation
  3. Customized style, TM, and terminology training
  4. Iterative output improvement

How do I know my baseline is the best?

Because DeepL says theirs is the best, and they’ve got millions of dollars to back it up… if they could.

Funny thing…

Whenever I compare theirs to mine on a third-party QA service like LanguageCheck.ai, mine comes out ahead just using Steps 2 and 3 above.

Imagine how much better it gets after we add in Steps 1 and 4, too. And once your veteran translators have done high-quality post-editing, it could even turn out better than full human translation used to be.

That means you can give your clients more value for less. When they see that, don’t you think some of them (the smart ones!) will start finding more to have you translate? After all, free MT isn’t free, and communicating effectively is a KPI that goes directly to their bottom line.

I’ve got an idea:

Let’s put my GAIT-Augmented MT and MTPE head-to-head against any other MT out there. We’ll run it through LanguageCheck.ai and see the results.

When you see independent QA scores that beat the industry leader, you’ll understand what’s possible for your clients and your business

Premium translation workflows are the only way boutique LSPs and veteran translators are going to make it through this paradigm shift.

But we need each other for this.

Whether you want to outsource your entire LangOps back office, or just need a temporary bridge while you build your own, I’ve got you covered.

Hit Reply and let me know if you’ve read this far.

If you have, I’d like to suggest a 30-minute Zoom call to answer your questions and set up a free pilot project.

The proof is in the pudding.

Steven

PS: Here’s what one of your colleagues in the industry said about my support: “Thank you for your quick help this weekend. Our linguist was happy with the quality of the Chinese>English machine translation and was able to post-edit it quite quickly.” — Emma Fields, Project Manager, TransLingua
