Hi everyone,
Two reminders for CotranslatorAI users: OpenAI’s legacy API key phaseout is coming up on October 22, and our next AI Drop-In Clinic is on Tuesday, October 20. If you need help updating your key, the clinic is a good opportunity to get it sorted.
Update your OpenAI API key before October 22
As I mentioned two weeks ago, OpenAI is phasing out legacy user API keys on October 22, 2026. Newer project API keys aren’t affected.
If you connected CotranslatorAI to OpenAI more than a year or two ago, you may still be using an older key. Here’s how to check:
In CotranslatorAI, go to Tools > Options > OpenAI API and click View/Update next to API Key.
A newer project key starts with sk-proj-. An older user key is much shorter and starts with sk- but not sk-proj-.
If yours starts with sk-proj-, you don’t need to replace it because of this phaseout. If you’re still using a legacy user key, replace it before October 22 to avoid disruption to your OpenAI connection in CotranslatorAI.
You’ll find a short video showing the checking and replacement steps in the Popular Videos section here:

If changing your API key feels confusing, I’ll be glad to walk you through it live during Tuesday’s drop-in clinic. You don’t have to figure it out on your own—and please don’t send your API key by email.
Bring your questions to Tuesday’s free AI Drop-In Clinic
Our next AI Drop-In Clinic for Translators is on Tuesday, October 20. It’s free and exclusive to CotranslatorAI Advanced licensed users.
Send me your question first then come to get help, and leave when you’re ready. There’s no prepared lecture and no homework—just direct help with whatever is slowing you down.
That might be updating your API key, getting a glossary to stick, simplifying a growing prompt, choosing a model, or making better use of a CotranslatorAI feature. Your question doesn’t have to be complicated or strictly about CotranslatorAI.
